Our Participants
Our participants do not fit a specific mold, they come from a wide range of life experiences and backgrounds. We work with individuals ages 13 and up, many of whom are struggling with some aspect of their life. However we believe strongly that every individual, no matter what their life experience or perspective, can benefit from positive mentors and a supportive peer culture.
Heartwood participants all share one central goal: the desire to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. Growing up in our world today is one of the most difficult times to find balance and direction, and Heartwood provides a haven for guidance and support.
For many participants the idea of counseling or wilderness excursions is daunting. The second thing that Heartwood participants have in common is a willingness to step into the unknown. This is a challenging step for most, but facing our fears is the first step towards achieving our goals. The most important lessons in life must be experienced; our participants learn these through authentic experiences with nature and with one another.
