Making Shelter
Saturday December 9
Ages 13-17
Connection to Self Connection to Other Connection to Nature
Heartwood Expeditions therapeutic adventures focus on cultivating a positive, LGBTQIA+ affirming peer culture via fun outdoor activities. It is our belief that individual growth occurs in relation to others, and the best way to build trusting relationships is through fun experiences in nature. Unlike other adventure and wilderness therapy programs, Heartwood offers ongoing opportunities for participants living in Eastern and Western Massachusetts to develop lasting relationships with peers and mentors in their local communities.
Location & Itinerary
Our day will start at 12:00pm Saturday December 9 at Heartwood headquarters in Goshen, MA. We will spend our early afternoon building shelter and early evening with fire and food. Group activities will include fun opportunities to get to know and learn from other participants. Our day will conclude at 6:00pm. Transportation may be available upon request.
Trip Leaders
Heartwood differs from similar outdoor programs in the training and experience of its team leaders. Unlike most young adult adventure and wilderness therapy programs, we always have at least one (often multiple) licensed clinician(s) on every Heartwood experience. Collectively Heartwood team members have backgrounds in child and family therapy, education, mentoring, and various forms of coaching. Mat and Erika will be hosting the December hiking trip.
